Dehradun. One of the two helicopters provided by the Central Government to the State Government to extinguish the fires in the forests of the mountainous areas, has reached the Joligrant Airport in Dehradun at 8:30 am. The helicopter then flew to Koti Colony in Tehri Garhwal. Air Force helicopters have started to extinguish the fire in the forests surrounding Koti.
Indian Air Force helicopters participated in firefighting operations in the nearby forests of Koti Colony area of Tehri Garhwal. Water is being sprayed from the Tehri lake with the help of 5000 liter capacity Bambi bucket. In the first round, water was sprayed in the forest of Advani. It is worth noting that earlier in the year 2016, the help of army helicopters was taken to control forest fires.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat had requested the Central Government to provide two helicopters to overcome the incidents of rising fire in the forest areas of the hilly areas within the state. He had a phone conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in this regard.
The Union Home Minister had assured all possible assistance to extinguish the fire in the forests. In this episode, a helicopter from Delhi has reached Uttarakhand on Monday. Naib Tehsildar Roop Singh of Doiwala Tehsil told that a helicopter from Delhi has reached the Jolly Grant Airport to extinguish the fire.
Helicopter did not reach due to low visibility
An Air Force helicopter provided by the Center to extinguish the Kumaon forests could not reach Pantnagar. Nodal officer and DFO Terai East Sandeep Kumar said that visibility is very low due to smoke in Pantnagar and surrounding areas. Which will make it difficult to land the helicopter. This is the reason why the army helicopter has not yet left its Dehradun camp.
