New Delhi . Putting to rest all speculation about the privatization of Indian Railways, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday that it will not be privatized and it will always be with the government. On the Demands for Grants of the Ministry of Railways in the Lok Sabha 2021-22, Goyal said that it is our endeavor that Indian Railways has become the engine of future development of the country.
He said that whether it is economy, passenger facilities or any other sector – the government is sensitively listening to the demands of all and understanding their needs.
The minister said that many leaders and MPs have alleged that we are corporateizing Indian Railways and we are disinvesting in Indian Railways.
“I want to clarify that Indian Railways will not be privatized and it will remain with the government. It is the property of the Government of India,” Goyal said.
He also said that roads are also the property of the government, but does anyone say that only government vehicles will run on the roads.
He said, “Shouldn’t capital investment be tried in the railway line? When it comes to private investment, it should be welcomed.” He said, government and private vehicles should also ply on the railway tracks to provide better services and better freight services.
Goyal said that to prepare the Indian Railways for the future, a National Rail Scheme -2030 has been prepared.
He said that Railways has placed 68 projects in critical category, 58 projects in second phase of important category.
