New Delhi. In Tapovan, Joshimath, most affected by the glacier breakdown in Uttarakhand, Indian Army personnel along with engineer task force have opened the tunnel. Rescue work is still going on 24 hours after the disaster. A senior Indian Army officer said, “Rescue operations continued throughout the night by installing generators and search lights.”
After evacuating the stranded people are being treated at a field hospital maintained by the army at the site. Indian Air Force helicopters had arrived here with rescue teams even before the sun rose. “The higher areas are also being investigated to find out if there is any danger of avalanche again,” the senior official said.
About 150 people are feared dead due to the overflowing of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited project due to flooding of Dhauliganga River near Tapovan.
NTPC said in a statement on Sunday, “A portion of our under-construction hydroelectric project has been damaged due to the glacier collapse near Tapovan in Uttarakhand. Rescue work is going on. The situation is being constantly monitored with the help of district administration and police. . ”
Please tell that the Rishi Ganga river near Joshimath was flooded around 10.45 am on Sunday. As a large part of the glacier fell into the river, the amount of water in it increased rapidly. Due to this, the Rishi Ganga hydroelectric project near Reni village was destroyed. The Border Road Organization (BRO) bridge on the Joshimath-Malari highway has also been washed away.
The local administration said, “6 shepherds were swept away in floods with their livestock, they were rescued.”
The river Rishi Ganga meets Dhauli Ganga near Reni village, due to which the Dhauli Ganga was also flooded, in which 6 houses of the village were washed away. Two bridges connecting the villages on the other side of the river were also washed away.
The BRO has managed to clear and open the Rishikesh-Joshimath-Mann route. The National Disaster Response Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and state officials are engaged in rescue operations with the army in the region. The central government is monitoring the situation and all agencies are working to rescue the stranded people.
