Harare | The Zimbabwean government has announced several evacuation centers in the province of Menikaland in view of ‘tropical storms’. According to the news agency report, the memories of the devastation caused by cyclonic storm Idai here in 2019 are still fresh.
Government spokesman Nick Mangwana said civilian security teams have been put on high alert as cyclonic storm Idai is expected to hit the eastern region of Zimbabwe on Wednesday.
Last year, at least 634 people died and 257 people went missing due to IDAI.
Some of the affected people are still living in tents, as the government is still struggling to build their new homes.
An estimated 270,000 people have been affected by the storm.
