Kathmandu Nepal’s President Vidya Devi Bhandari called Prime Minister K.P. Parliament has been dissolved on the recommendation of Sharma Oli. With this, the way of elections in this mountainous country was paved in April-May next year. Senior leaders of the Nepal Communist Party objected to Oli’s decision without any prior consultation and seven cabinet ministers of the party resigned.
Along with approving the government’s recommendation, the President also announced new elections in two phases on 30 April and 10 May next year.
According to a statement from the President’s Office, the President has approved the recommendation of the Council of Ministers in line with Articles 76 (1) and (7) and 85 of the Constitution.
Earlier on Sunday, in an emergency meeting called by Oli, the cabinet decided to recommend dissolution to Parliament in view of a deepening crisis within the ruling party.
Oli’s move has been widely condemned in all areas in Nepal. Even the leaders of his party have opposed the move to recommend dissolution of the house before two years and termed the move as unconstitutional and undemocratic.
The main opposition party in Parliament, the Nepali Congress, has said that the Cabinet’s decision to recommend dissolution of the House is against the provisions and spirit of the Constitution and they will strongly oppose it.
