Agra. Agra Metro Rail Project: After Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, work on the much awaited Metro Rail Project of the tourism city of Agra is going to start. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inaugurating the construction work of Agra Metro Rail Project on Monday i.e. today. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs (Independent Charge) Hardeep Singh Puri have also reached Tajnagri to attend the program organized at the 15th Corps PAC Parade Ground. Governor Anandiben Patel is joining the event through video conferencing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Agra Metro Project at 12 noon. Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath and Union Minister of State for Urban Housing Hardeep Puri will be present at the ceremony held at PAC Ground here. Preparations for the foundation stone of this Agra Metro project costing Rs 379 crore have been completed. The metro track in the city will be 30 km long. In December 2022, the metro will start operating in six stations. In five years, both the corridors of the metro will be ready. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be in the city for two hours. On this occasion in Agra, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be accompanied by Agra MP, Mayor and many colleagues of Yogi Adityanath Cabinet along with Director General of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, Kumar Keshav. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also issued instructions to UPMRC to complete the first phase of this major scheme by December 2022. In the first phase, by December 2022, its service will start from Sikandra to Taj East Gate.
The total cost (including central taxes) of Agra Metro will be Rs 8379.62 crore. In the first phase, Taj East Gate Corridor will be constructed from Sikandra. Firstly, a primary section of six kilometers from Taj East to Jama Masjid will be prepared. In this section, a total of six metro stations, Taj East Gate, Basai, Fatehabad Road, three upstream metro stations will be built. Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Jama Masjid will be underground metro stations. 9.37 hectare land has been selected for the construction of Corridor-1 depot in Agra Metro Rail Project. Out of this, 8.09 hectares of land belongs to PAC 15th duct and 1.28 hectares of Mandalayuk office. The work of construction of Agra Metro Rail Project depot has been given to Messrs. Leesha Engineers Private Limited.
A spokesman for the state government said that the Agra Metro Rail project would be operated by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation. Two 29.4 km long corridors are proposed under the project. The first corridor, approximately 14 kilometers long, will be built between Taj East Gate to Sikandra, which will have 13 metro stations. Second, the corridor will be built between Agra Cantt to Kalandi Vihar, which will have a length of 15.4 km. It will have a total of 14 metro stations.
Yogi Adityanath government is moving ahead with the goal of completing this project in two years due to tourism and increasing industrial activity in Agra. After starting work on this scheme of Uttar Pradesh government soon, people will get the facility of metro rail here in two years. In this project of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, along with Agra, Kanpur and Gorakhpur are there.
UP Metro Managing Director Kumar Keshav says that the Agra Metro will provide an environment-friendly, comfortable and hassle-free means of public transport. Metro will make it easy to travel to world-famous tourist destinations like Taj Mahal and Agra Fort in Agra. Its biggest advantage will be in tourism development. It is a major challenge for our team to construct a metro corridor in the heart of the city within the time frame. We will provide the metro within the stipulated time limit by completing it.
26 lakh population will be benefited
The spokesman says that this metro rail project will benefit the population of 26 lakhs of Agra. Also, about 60 lakh tourists coming to Agra every year will also be able to take advantage of world class metro services in the city. As a project, the tourism city will get a state-of-the-art and global mass rapid transit system (MRTS). The corridors have been set up so that the four major railway stations, bus depots, colleges, major markets and tourist destinations of the city can be connected. It is noteworthy that on March 8, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Agra Metro Rail project through video conferencing from Kanpur, whose construction works are now being launched.
