London. Getting through a divorce is extremely challenging and now a new study suggests that it can negatively impact mental and physical health. The study, published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, found that people who have recently been divorced face far more mental and physical health problems than others.
Researchers are investigating the mental and physical effects of divorce, but have not yet missed the opportunity to accurately portray these effects.
Divorce is often a lengthy process, with many countries providing that spouses are given some time before applying for divorce, which have different periods in different countries. However, a long separation between wife and wife also gives them psychologically time to think and understand.
“Previous studies have not examined the effects of divorce without an extensive separation period occurring before divorce,” said author Gert Hald of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.
“We have also been able to study divorces that were granted a so-called ‘immediate’ divorce in Denmark and were divorced within five days of the filing of these divorces on average,” he said.
For the study, the resort team obtained ‘real-time’ data on 1,856 very recent divorces, asking various important questions related to the divorce’s background, health, and their divorce.
Unexpectedly, studies have shown that recent divorce has an emotional and physical impact.
Immediately after divorce, divorce has a significantly negative impact on people’s mental and physical health compared to others of similar backgrounds.
