Aligarh. For the first time, Hindu students will celebrate Holi at one place in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). The university administration has given permission to play Holi in the Non Resident Student Center (NRSC) hall. Students will be able to play Holi here on March 13 and 14. This hall is about one km away from the main campus. However, there has never been a ban on playing Holi in AMU.
Students have been playing Holi in hostels and departments. This time, Hindu students had sought permission to hold a Holi Milan function on March 9 in the NRSC hall. Considering it a new tradition, the university administration had refused. The matter became heated when BJP MP Satish Gautam and Akhil Bharatiya Karni Sena came forward. After this, the AMU administration has now given permission.
Student Akhil had sought permission to play Holi
Akhil Kaushal, a law student at AMU, had sought permission from the university administration to hold a Holi Milan function in the NRSC hall on February 25. On March 3, the student was told that he cannot be given permission for a special event. The student leader had raised the question that Eid Milan function is held at the Vice Chancellor’s residence.
Thousands of students organize Iftar parties in every hostel and department. What is the problem in giving permission to Hindu students for the function? NRSC Hall was chosen for the function because it is far from the university campus. There can be no clash between Hindu and Muslim students there. This matter was going on since then.
On Thursday, the matter heated up when the All India Karni Sena came in support of the Hindu students. The state president of the Sena, Thakur Gyanendra Singh Chauhan announced that if the students do not get permission for the function, then on March 10, on the day of Rang Bharne Ekadashi, hundreds of Karni Sainiks will go to the university and play Holi with Hindu students.
This brought the administration into action. Old photos of Hindu students playing Holi were sent to the media and videos of former students were also broadcast. In which they said that everyone celebrates Holi together in AMU. On Friday, BJP MP Satish Gautam gave it more importance.
He said that Holi will be celebrated in AMU, and it will be celebrated with great enthusiasm. All Hindu students will celebrate Holi with pomp and show. If any Hindu student faces any problem, I am here for that. No one’s permission is needed for Holi.
On being asked about the attack on Hindu students during Holi last year, he said that how can there be any fight, whoever fights will be sent to the top. After this, AMU started getting criticized on the internet media. The message went out that Hindu students are being stopped from playing Holi in AMU. After this, the AMU administration gave permission to play Holi in the NRSC hall.
The AMU administration has decided that any student who wants to play Holi on 13th and 14th March in the NRSC hall can do so. They should throw lots of colours, they are welcome. There is an AMU board exam on 9th March. It is not possible that any student will play Holi on that day. Students have classes on 10th, 11th and 12th. In such a situation, it is not right to leave the class and play Holi. –Prof. BB Singh, Provost NRSC Hall, AMU
Historic victory of Hindu students, will play Holi with gulab jamun
Student leader Akhil Kaushal, who had sought permission for Holi Milan function in NRSC Hall, has welcomed the decision of the university administration. He said, better late than never. Finally, after a long struggle of two weeks, permission was granted to organize the function. However, the students wanted permission for March 9.
Most of the students will go home on March 13, 14, but whoever stays will celebrate Holi with full enthusiasm. This is our historic victory. For the first time in history, the AMU administration has allowed students to play Holi together at one place.
I want to give this message to the whole country that a lot is going to change in the coming time. AMU administration has made it clear that students can play Holi anywhere in the AMU campus including the NRSC club. The responsibility of the safety of the students lies with the AMU administration. If anyone tries to create obstacles in the Holi festival of the students, we will destroy them.
