Mathura: The secret of Sadhu Gauri Gangadas Panda living in a temple in Nandgaon, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh has been revealed. Actually it is not a monk, it is Vijay, a prize crook declared by the Gujarat Police. 23 years ago he had killed his girlfriend’s brother in Surat. On the other hand, when the police tried to arrest him, he ran away to Mathura and was absconding here in the guise of a monk. This vicious scoundrel had never used a mobile phone in these 23 years. But now he felt that the matter had cooled down, so he recently bought a mobile phone and started talking to his family members.
On the other hand, the Gujarat Police was already tracking its family members. In this, the mobile number of the accused was tracked. After this, the Gujarat police reached Mathura and arrested the accused. According to the Gujarat Police, after collecting all the information about the accused, the Gujarat Police team reached Mathura ten days in advance. In these ten days, more than a hundred temples were reconstructed. More than 500 sadhus were checked. Even then the identity of the accused could not be ascertained, but the police suspected that Gauri Gangadas Panda, a sadhu living in the Nandgaon temple, is Vijay.
In such a situation, the police team wore saffron clothes to confirm this and asked the monk for permission to serve. Then, while serving Gauri Gangadas Panda for 24 hours, the police became completely convinced, then informed the local police and then after arresting the accused with the help of the local police, took him to Surat on Sunday. Surat police said that the accused Sadhu Gauri Gangadas Panda alias Vijay had killed a youth on September 3, 2001 in Udhna area of the city. That young man was the brother of the accused’s girlfriend and was becoming an obstacle in their love affair.
Made distance from family for 23 years
Police said that the accused Vijay first kidnapped the youth and then strangled him by taking him to the bay. On the other hand, when the police tried to arrest the accused, he went to his native village in Odisha. Later, when the Gujarat police reached there too, the accused came to Mathura and grew his beard and started hiding in the guise of a monk. During interrogation of the police, the accused told that for 23 years he neither talked to his relatives nor used internet or mobile etc. for fear of being caught. However, in the past, he felt that now the matter has settled down, the accused bought a mobile. After this he started talking to his family and relatives everyday.
Surat police told that after getting no clue about the accused for a long time, he was declared a fugitive criminal by the court. After this, the Gujarat Police declared a reward of Rs 45,000 against the accused. As soon as the reward was announced, Surat police started trying to track the accused through electronic surveillance. For this, first of all the mobile numbers of the relatives of the accused were put on surveillance. While tracking these numbers, last month got some inputs about the accused. While verifying this input, it was found that the accused was living in Mathura in the guise of a monk. After this the police of Surat reached Mathura ten days ago, but the problem with the police was that how to identify the accused among so many sadhus. In such a situation, the police team also assumed the form of a monk and finally arrested the accused.
