New Delhi: The IPL 2023 season began on 31 March in Ahmedabad with a match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. Now on this ground, the end of the season is also going to happen between these two teams on Sunday, May 28. The title match of IPL 2023 is to be played between Gujarat and Chennai. As much as this final is special for MS Dhoni, it is equally special for Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill, who are on the verge of doing something as special as Dhoni.
The defending champions Gujarat Titans are going to play the finals for the second consecutive season. While making his debut last season, he won the championship by defeating Rajasthan Royals. This time in front of him is four-time champion and 10th-time finalist Chennai. The competition is equal in both the teams.
Chance to repeat amazing like Dhoni
Now who will win here, it will be decided only on Sunday evening. If we assume that Gujarat Titans wins the title once again, then it will be very special for Gujarat captain Hardik Pandya. Not just because he will win the title for the second time, but because he will match the feat of MS Dhoni – the captain who won the title twice in a row.
Under Dhoni’s captaincy, Chennai won the tournament twice in a row in 2010 and 2011. Incidentally, his second victory came exactly 12 years back on May 28. By the way, apart from Dhoni, Rohit Sharma also won the trophy twice in a row, in 2019 and 2020. Hardik can become the third captain.
Will Gill equalise, then spoil the party?
Not only Hardik, but Gujarat’s young opener Shubman Gill is also going to do another miracle like him against Dhoni. Along with taking the field for the final, Shubman Gill will play the IPL final for the third time in a row just like Chennai captain Dhoni. Dhoni had played the final four times in a row, in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Shubman Gill played the finals for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021 and Gujarat in 2022. In 2021, he had to face defeat against Dhoni’s Chennai only. In such a situation, Gill now has a chance to settle scores. Anyway, Gill has spoiled the party of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the last few matches, is it Dhoni’s turn now?
