Shami said that he is ready for a captaincy role in Test cricket, but emphasized that the idea of leading the Indian team is not on his mind at the moment. he said, ‘I am not thinking much about captaincy at the moment. I am ready for whatever responsibility is given to me. To be honest, who doesn’t want to captain the Indian team but that is not the only thing and I want to contribute in every possible way for the team.
The pacer has been rested for the limited overs series against West Indies starting February 6 as Shami has been playing consistently for the past few months. Regarding this, he said, ‘I am available for selection in all formats and if it happens then I am excited for it.’
India will take on West Indies in 3 ODIs in Ahmedabad from February 6, while the two teams will play a three-match T20I series in Kolkata from February 16. Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in this series, while KL Rahul has been made the vice-captain. The ODIs will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on February 6, 9 and 11, while the T20 series will be played at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on February 16, 18 and February 20 respectively.
