Kanpur. CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) station, that too floating in the river! Don’t be surprised, it’s a reality now. In the whole world only in his country, in his state and in the cultural capital of Banaras. Scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) have also played an important role in making the Khidkiya Ghat eco-friendly there. In this series, IIT’s incubated company Aquafront Infrastructure has prepared a CNG filling station on the Ganges stream. This will enable fuel for CNG boats. This is the world’s first floating CNG station. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the scientists after seeing this technology.
Khirkiya Ghat in Varanasi has been designed as a state-of-the-art model ghat. It is completely eco-friendly and a center of attraction for tourists in terms of facilities. Travelers can take the river route to reach Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor by CNG boats. To fill CNG in boats, IIT scientists have prepared a floating CNG station on the banks of the Ganges. IIT Director Prof. Abhay Karandikar said that it is a matter of pride that we have contributed to Kashi Vishwanath Dham.
Our incubated company has built the world’s first floating CNG station for boats. Self-adjusting Fixed Type Jetty (SAFTJ) has also been successfully fabricated with patented technology. The specialty of the jetty is that the CNG pipeline connections to all dispensers will be secure with controlled risk during floods. When the water level rises, the pipeline will be able to move up and down along the platform.
Aquafront Infrastructure Company was formed three years ago by IIT-BHU students Ankit Patel and Achin Agarwal. IIT Kanpur had given technical help in this. The company manufactures products such as floating docks, steel floating jetties, dumb barges (floating platforms for carrying heavy cargo across rivers) etc. In Varanasi, the company’s directors Ankit Patel and Achin along with Keshav Pathak, Rakesh Jatolia and Jai Shankar Sharma prepared the project. IIT BHU Prof. It has been implemented with the effort of KK Pandey.
The company’s director Ankit Patel told that in July this year, he got this project from the government. Then there was a tender of Rs 2.85 crore, but it took a total of Rs 3.62 crore to prepare it. The project was completed in about five months and it has been certified after scrutiny by IIT BHU as well as Indian Register of Shipping. Now preparations are on to build a similar station at Ravidas Ghat in Varanasi.
