Dehradun. The government is again awaiting the study report of scientists regarding the future of hydropower projects in the state. Teams of scientists are engaged in studying it on the instructions of the central government. In Chamoli district, due to the breaking of glaciers in Rishiganga and Dhauliganga, the havoc caused great havoc. There has been a lot of loss of life and property in this. After this disaster, once again the debate has been raised that big hydroelectric projects should not be built in the Himalayan region. Environmentalists in particular have been opposed to these projects. He says that the environment of the Himalayas is extremely sensitive. So it is not right to tamper more than this.
However, till now the role of earlier disaster and hydroelectric projects has been studied by various committees at the national level, it has not found the role of these projects in the disaster. Conversely, the facts have emerged that these projects have helped in reducing the impact of floods. Union Minister of State for Energy RK Singh has said that the Barrage of Hydroelectric Project in Tapovan played an important role in preventing the devastation of the disaster in Chamoli.
This barrage covered millions of tons of debris. In the event of this debris going further into the river, the disaster could have caused the disaster. Now both the central and state governments are eyeing the study report of scientists going to the bottom of the cause of the disaster in Chamoli. A team of scientists has been engaged in this work. The team will submit its study report to both governments. The state government is also waiting for this report. According to Energy Secretary Radhika Jha, the study report will help in knowing the situation of the disaster.
