new Delhi. A group of senior disgruntled leaders of the Congress and the interim president of the party, Sonia Gandhi, will hold an important meeting at her residence at 10 am on Saturday. The group of senior disgruntled leaders of the Congress is known as the G-23. Former Prime Minister and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi will also attend this meeting.
This will be the first face-to-face meeting after 23 top leaders wrote to Sonia Gandhi demanding a comprehensive reform of the party.
The meeting is being seen as a step towards ‘reconciliation’ among rebel factions, who were ignored for demanding a meeting with the party chief.
Sources say that Priyanka Gandhi has decided to entrust senior leader Kamal Nath to reduce the tussle between the party leadership and others.
Apart from Sonia, Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi, A.K. K. Several senior leaders including Antony, P. Chidambaram, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Shashi Tharoor, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Prithvi Raj Chauhan will be present in the meeting.
Along with this, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will also be present in the meeting.
The official agenda is to discuss the current political situation arising out of the farmers’ movement.
The source said that Kamal Nath was concerned with the party’s low-level performance in many states.
The Congress leadership was surprised after 23 senior leaders wrote to Sonia Gandhi in August this year demanding active leadership.
Kamal Nath lost power in March this year after Jyotiraditya Scindia’s rebellion in Madhya Pradesh.
Kamal Nath had earlier met Sonia Gandhi at her residence on December 8 to discuss party issues.
