Bhopal. The public had given a mandate against the BJP in the 2018 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, but in the by-elections of 28 assembly seats held in 2020, almost two years later, voters have once again reposed faith in the BJP government’s seven months of functioning. Now BJP has a clear majority government in Madhya Pradesh. Voters stamped the government of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and on Tuesday put nearly 19 out of 28 seats in BJP. The Congress, which claimed to win all the seats, fared better in only a few seats in Gwalior-Chambal. The Congress was reduced to winning eight seats.
Kamal Nath-Digvijay duo given exile before Diwali
After these results came four days before Deepawali, where BJP workers are celebrating, there is disappointment in the Congress office. The voters of Kamal Nath-Digvijay Singh have been sent on political exile before Diwali. Due to the by-elections in more seats, it was also considered a 20-20 match of power.
The Congress had the challenge of winning all 28 seats to return to power.
Significantly, 22 supporters of former Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the BJP by resigning from the membership of the Assembly and leaving the Congress. Due to this the Kamal Nath government was reduced to a minority and had to resign from the post of Chief Minister. After this, Shivraj Singh Chauhan was sworn in as the Chief Minister. The process of quitting by Congress MLAs continued till the voting for the by-election and one seat is still vacant. Even after this result, there will be 229 MLAs in the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. During the by-election, Congress MLA from Damoh, Rahul Lodhi resigned. With this, the majority figure for forming the government increased to 115 and the Congress had the challenge of winning all 28 seats. From then on, the path for BJP seemed to be easy, but Congress claimed to win all seats.
The difference between the results of the by-elections and the claims of Congress
The results of the by-election and the claims of the Congress were ground-wide. The counting of votes was going on till the news was written, but it was almost clear that the BJP was winning 19 seats.
Congress got a big shock in many seats
The results have given a major shock to the Congress. In the seats where Congress victory was being ensured, the Congress candidates also lost. The margin of defeat and victory of many Congress candidates was quite high. This exposed the reality of the organization’s disintegration in the Congress. It is noteworthy that Kamal Nath went home from the party office after the Congress lost in the afternoon.
Shivraj emerged as number one again
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has again emerged as the number one leader in the state after the BJP’s historic electoral success. The results proved that Shivraj has the highest popularity in Madhya Pradesh. In the Corona period, increasing the percentage of women to vote in large numbers has also contributed to their ‘maternal uncle’ image. The unilateral voting in favor of the BJP also made it clear that the voters did not take any action in handing over the command of the state to Shivraj.
Scindia’s height will increase in BJP
The election results in Gwalior-Chambal region have always been influenced by the Scindia royal family. This is the first time that Jyotiraditya Scindia took charge of the BJP after leaving the Congress. The BJP’s performance was, as expected, under adverse circumstances. In such a situation, Scindia’s contribution in maintaining the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh will be considered, so the party’s big leaders believe that no matter how many supporters of theirs win, Scindia will grow in the BJP. They argue that if the BJP government has come in majority then it is also Scindia.

Damage to Kamal Nath and Digvijay pair
The results of the by-elections have put a stop to the Congress power race in Madhya Pradesh and put a question mark on the political future of the two prominent faces of the state’s politics. These faces are former Chief Minister Kamal Nath and Digvijay Singh. Their political stature has decreased in the by-elections and this elderly couple is sure to suffer further loss. It is believed that the demand for new leadership in the state will be vigorously raised and their rights will be limited.
Responses
I had already said that the by-election is between democracy and notocracy, between the people and the administration. Notocracy wins and democracy loses – Digvijay Singh, former Chief Minister MP.
We have a mandate. Thanks to voters– Kamal Nath, former Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh.
It has been proved that the people of Madhya Pradesh are with the views of the BJP. Promises to the public that his trust will not be broken. Will leave no stone unturned in the development of the state. The decision taken by MLAs along with Jyotiraditya Scindia to bring down the government has proved to be correct. Now we have only one goal – development of Madhya Pradesh – Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Chief Minister, MP.
This mandate is a befitting reply to Kamal Nath and Digvijay Singh, along with the support of the public to the BJP. The people of the state have shown both the way out – Vishnu Dutt Sharma, State BJP President.
