new Delhi. All flights scheduled under the Vanda India Mission have been postponed between 4 July and 14 July due to restrictions imposed by the Corona virus (Covid-19) in Australia. Air India said in a statement that due to the recent Corona-related restrictions imposed on international flights to Australia, there are postponements of aircraft coming to the next phase of the Wanda India mission. According to the national carrier, all scheduled flights will now operate from July 15.
At the end of last month, Air India announced the operation of eight aircraft under the Vanda Bharat Mission between India and Australia. The flights were scheduled to operate from 1 July to 14 July. According to data shared by the Ministry of External Affairs, the fourth phase of the Vande Bharat Mission began on 3 July. The ministry said on Friday that more than 5 lakh stranded Indians have returned to India safely from 137 countries under the Vande Bharat Mission.
Most people returned to Kerala
According to the ministry, under this campaign launched on May 7, 2020, 5,03,990 Indians stranded in 137 countries including remote areas have returned to their homes in less than two months. This is an important achievement, the initial target of bringing Indians under the mission was only 2 lakhs. According to the release, Kerala returned the highest number (94,085). It was followed by Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. The mission consisted of 860 Air India flights, 1256 charter flights and 8 naval ships.
Most people returned from UAE
According to the ministry, the most stranded Indians have returned from the UAE (57,305) under flights under the mission. Subsequently, people have returned from Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the US and Nepal through land border posts (91,193).
