Amid growing demand for boycott of Chinese products in the wake of the India-China deadlock, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious program ‘Make in India’, saying that imports from China actually increased after 2014 has gone. The graphics showed that imports from China were below 14 percent from 2008 to 2014, while Chinese imports exceeded 18 percent during the BJP-led NDA regime.
The graphics also show that in 2008, imports from China were 12 per cent under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s rule, while in 2012 it increased to 14 per cent, but in 2014 again came down to 13 per cent.
At the same time, during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, imports from China increased from 13 percent to 14 percent in 2015, 16 percent in 2016, 17 percent in 2017 and 18 percent in 2018.
