Lahore Pakistan’s anti-corruption body has registered another case of corruption against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and three others. This case is related to illegal allocation of land in Punjab province 34 years ago. An arrest warrant has also been issued against 70-year-old Sharif living in London for medical treatment. Also, on not responding to any summons, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has approached the Anti-Corruption Court to declare Sharif as a fugitive.
54 kanals of land was allotted in Lahore.
The three other people accused in the case filed by NAB are Jung / Jio Media Group owner Mir Shakeelur Rahman, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director Humayun Faiz Rasool and former Director (Land) Mian Bashir. It is alleged that in 1986 when Sharif was the Chief Minister of Punjab, he allotted 54 kanals of land in Lahore to Mir Shakeelur Rahman defying the rules. Rahman was arrested by the NAB on March 12, since which he is on judicial remand. Sharif and two LDA officials are accused of misusing the post to allot precious land near the canal to Rahman in violation of the rules.
Permission to go abroad for treatment was given
Sharif, a three-time Prime Minister, visited London in November. The Lahore High Court allowed him to go abroad for four weeks for treatment. He was granted bail in the Aj-Azizia Mills corruption case in which he was serving a seven-year prison sentence in Kot Lakhpat Jail. He was also granted bail in a money laundering case for going abroad.
