A Deputy Commissioner posted in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the 15th floor of his apartment in Noida Sector-75 on Monday. According to the police, the family of the deceased commissioner has claimed that he was suffering from cancer and was depressed due to this.
Sector-113 police station in-charge KG Sharma said that Sanjay Singh, working in the GST department in Ghaziabad, jumped from the 15th floor of his apartment in Apex Athena Society at around 11 am.
Sanjay Singh was suffering from cancer
KG Sharma said that the family members of the deceased officer told the police that he was suffering from cancer and was depressed, due to which he probably committed suicide. The station in-charge said that Sanjay Singh’s body has been sent for post-mortem. He told that Sanjay Singh was originally a resident of Mau district of Uttar Pradesh and his family consists of his wife and two sons.
He had attempted suicide in the morning as well
According to the police, initial investigation has revealed that Sanjay Singh had attempted suicide on Monday morning as well, but people around him saw him and informed the security personnel deployed there, who pacified him and sent him back home. Police said that in the afternoon, Singh jumped from the 15th floor when he got the chance. He said that the police is investigating the case keeping in mind various aspects.

Sanjay Singh was the Deputy Commissioner of GST in Ghaziabad. He was posted in Ghaziabad for two years. He was also looking after departmental Supreme Court related work. He had got the charge of section two just a week ago. Apart from the wife, the family has two sons. One son works in Gurugram, while the other son is studying in a university in Greater Noida. The police has prepared the Panchnama of the body and sent it for post-mortem. The police is investigating the matter. Police say that no complaint and suicide note has been found yet.
