Sambhal. There was a commotion when gas leaked during the digging of the second floor of the underground stepwell in Chandausi on the 12th day. The doors of the second floor were visible. Smoke started coming out on further digging. The workers also felt lack of oxygen. Hence, considering it to be poisonous gas, the digging was stopped.
The cleaning work of the first floor is going on. On December 21, after receiving a complaint in Samadhan Diwas, DM Rajendra Pansia started digging in an empty plot in Mohalla Laxmanganj. A stepwell has been found in it. Houses have been built by demolishing one floor above the stepwell. On digging the plot, one floor of the stepwell has come out.
On Wednesday, while digging further, while gas leaked, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officer Rajesh Meena has been talked to. After that the digging was stopped. According to the revenue records, only 210 square meter plot is vacant above the stepwell built in 400 square meter. Houses have been built by occupying the rest of the land.
The wall of a house has also been found above the stepwell. In the first floor underground, 12 doors of the verandah built all around and the stairs going downwards are clearly visible. The floor made of red stone is visible. Complete finishing is visible. There are also eight ancient niches in the walls. There is a possibility of one more floor.

Here, the exercise of opening police posts in Khaggu Sarai and Deepa Sarai is going on at a fast pace. There is a possibility of building being built on government land at both places.
