BCCI and PCB are at loggerheads over the Champions Trophy 2025, now the former Pakistani cricketer has termed it a politically motivated issue. He has expressed concern that international cricket will be hurt administratively due to politics. Afridi has expressed disappointment by posting this social media at a time when the ICC meeting is going to be held on November 29. In this meeting, the topic of Indian team going to Pakistan and the hybrid model can be discussed.
The legendary Pakistani cricketer posted on social media and said, “By linking sports with politics, BCCI has put international cricket in a precarious position. I fully support PCB’s decision to oppose the hybrid model, especially because the Pakistani team has toured India 5 times without citing security reasons. These include the white ball bilateral series after the 26/11 attacks. Now the time has come for the ICC and its Board of Directors to show their authority by maintaining impartiality.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board has already opposed Team India’s matches being held in the UAE or any other country. But due to India’s stance, ICC is also in a crisis situation because due to the delay in the schedule, broadcasters have started putting pressure on the International Cricket Council. For now, the hybrid model seems to be the best option, but PCB’s stance is also a matter of great concern for the ICC.
It has even been said that if any attempt is made to implement the hybrid model, then Pakistan will withdraw its name from the tournament. On the other hand, due to Team India’s absence from the Champions Trophy, ICC, broadcasters and even PCB itself may have to suffer huge losses.
