Former Indian cricket team spinner Harbhajan Singh raised a big question on the selection of Team India before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. According to reports, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy can make his Test debut in the first Test of the series to be played in Perth, on which Bhajji raised a big question. Bhajji asked where is all-rounder Shardul Thakur? Nitish made his international debut some time ago through the T20 series played against Bangladesh. Now he seems to be getting a chance in Tests as well. Speaking on Jatin Sapru’s YouTube channel, Harbhajan said that Nitish Kumar’s first class career is also not very big. He emphasized that Shardul played an important role in Team India’s victory in the 2020-21 series. Bhajji said, “You need an all-rounder like Hardik Pandya. But you have no option but to play Nitish Kumar Reddy. Where is Shardul Thakur? Where is Hardik Pandya? We have limited him to the shorter formats. Suddenly on a tour like this, you are asking Nitish Kumar to bowl.”
Further, Bhajji explained how Nitish Kumar Reddy can play a role like Sourav Ganguly by bowling a few overs. He said, “He can bowl a few overs here and there like Sourav Ganguly and if he gets 1-2 wickets, it will be a bonus.”
Shardul Thakur has been out for a long time
It is worth noting that Shardul Thakur has not got a place in Team India for a long time. He is a bowler who plays all three formats for Team India. Shardul played his last match for Team India in December 2023. Slowly, it is going to be a year since he was out of Team India. Till now, Shardul has played 11 Tests, 47 ODIs and 25 T20 International matches.
