In the game of cricket, it is not necessary to have a batsman, bowler and fielder. It is very important to have an umpire on the field because it is only the umpire whose word all the players are bound to obey. Umpiring in an international match is not easy because there have been many controversies on decisions ranging from wide to LBW and others. But have you ever wondered how much salary an umpire would get for an ODI match?
Salary of an umpire in an ODI match
Umpires need to get ICC recognition to umpire in an international match. A top level umpire can earn from Rs 66.8 lakh to Rs 1.67 crore annually. Apart from salary, they are also provided with travel expenses, hotel stay and food expenses. The salary of umpires also depends on their stature in cricket and how much experience they have.
For an ODI match, an umpire gets a salary of 2500-3000 US dollars. This amount is between 2 lakh to 2.5 lakh rupees in Indian currency. Earlier, the salary of umpires in ODI matches was not so high, but with the intention of reducing mistakes in big and important matches, ICC has increased the salary in the last few years.
Aleem Dar and Kumar Dharmasena are among the highest earning umpires in the world. In the last few years, the world has got 2 world class umpires in the form of Anil Chaudhary and Nitin Menon. Both of them are included in the ICC’s elite panel list and last year BCCI released a list, under which Anil and Nitin get 40 thousand rupees for one match for umpiring in domestic matches.
