Bareilly. Rajan Verma, who was duped in the name of police recruitment five years ago, spread such a web that even real policemen kept getting fooled. The accused, who passed 8th grade, started targeting women constables of the same caste by wearing a uniform and showing the exact mannerisms of a policeman. He used to win their trust by promising marriage, and used to dupe them of lakhs of rupees by showing dreams of settling down.
Four women constables in Lakhimpur Kheri, Shravasti, Moradabad had filed FIRs against him for cheating, but he could not be caught. He did the same thing in Bareilly too, only then could he be arrested on Tuesday. Police officials said that he has confessed to 10 incidents. It is suspected that he also sexually exploited everyone. Many such facts have been found during interrogation.
He himself was duped five years ago
Lakhimpur resident Rajan Verma runs a petha making factory. He had to go to Ayodhya for business, so he met Sunil Gupta in the year 2019. He cheated Sunil of Rs 5 lakh by pretending to be from SOG and his father a constable in police lines and promising him a job. Sunil stayed with Rajan in police lines for three months and got money for monthly expenses. Later he found out that he had been cheated, then he lodged a complaint in the police station and returned with some money back.
Raped a female constable
SP City Rahul Bhati said that while staying in Ayodhya Police Lines, he raped a female constable. At that time, when the need for action arose, he got married. Later, when the female constable came to know the truth, she distanced herself. Meanwhile, Rajan had contacts with many policemen. He started getting closer to female constables of the same caste known to him. He would also introduce himself to female constables with the help of police website and internet media. After this, he would rape them by promising marriage and extort money from them.
He duped a woman constable posted in Bareilly
The first FIR against him was lodged in Civil Lines police station in Moradabad in 2021. The second FIR was lodged in Mitauli police station in Lakhimpur Kheri in 2022 and the third FIR was lodged in the same police station this year. The fourth FIR was lodged in Bhinga police station in Shravasti. Some time ago, he deceived a woman constable posted in Bareilly. He said that he would buy a house to live in after marriage, on this pretext, he slowly took Rs 30 lakh of salary and loan. He also raped her.
The truth of Rajan came to the fore in the investigation
According to the woman constable, Rajan used to tell that he was posted in Lakhimpur Kheri. Sometimes he would come to meet her in Bareilly wearing uniform. He was continuously extorting money and kept procrastinating in the name of marriage. On suspicion, information was gathered from familiar policemen of Lakhimpur Kheri district, then it was found that he was cheating. An FIR was registered against him under the sections of rape, cheating, deception, fraud.
