Varanasi: Swami Shivshankar Chaitanya Bharti Upakhya Swami Bhartiji Maharaj, a dedicated devotee of Srikashi Vishwanath, a great ascetic, a great scholar, devotee of Brahman, Shiva, passed away on Sunday. He breathed his last at 2 pm at Sri Ramakrishna Mission Hospital. He was more than a hundred years old.
Took retirement at a young age
Swami, who was in solitary confinement on the third floor of Raj Rajeshwari Math, Lalita Ghat, had become infirm for some days, but his sadhana and worship continued. He was originally a resident of Rajasthan. In his youth, he took initiation into Sannyasa from Swami Shankar Chaitanya Bharati and started migrating to Kashi. There was no other scholar of Sanskrit and oriental knowledge and a great ascetic like him. The people of Kashi considered him to be the true form of Shiva. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences on the demise of Swami Shankar Chaitanya Bharati.
