Australia’s Beth Mooney will captain Gujarat Giants in the second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), starting on February 23. The franchise announced this on Wednesday.
Mooney was also made the captain for the first season but she got injured after the first match and could not play in the remaining matches of the tournament. Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana led the team in his absence.
Sneh has been made the vice captain for the second season. Gujarat had finished last in the five-team competition in 2023. “They (Mooni and Sneh) will be part of the leadership group along with head coach Michael Klinger, mentor and advisor Mithali Raj and assistant coach Nooshin Al Khadeer,” the franchise said in a statement. Gujarat Giants will begin their campaign on February 25 in Bengaluru. Will do it against Mumbai Indians.
