Lucknow. Rita Bahuguna Joshi, former MLA of Lucknow Cantt Assembly and current MP of Prayagraj, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by the court of Lucknow MP/MLA Magistrate Ambrish Kumar Srivastava for violating the code of conduct. The court has also imposed a fine of one thousand rupees.
The prosecution’s allegation was that on the day of the incident, 17 February 2012, Rita Bahuguna Joshi continued her campaign despite the scheduled time of campaigning for the assembly elections ending. Its report was lodged by Static Surveillance Magistrate Mukesh Kumar Chaturvedi at Krishnanagar police station. Told that in Mohalla Bajrang Nagar, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, the then candidate of Congress, Area Legislative Assembly Cantt, the campaign time has ended.
Despite this, she was holding a public meeting in violation of the code of conduct. Videography of which was done and the people present in the meeting were removed. At the same time, action was taken by registering a case under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act. It is noteworthy that Bahuguna was in the Congress party at that time. In that election, she was elected MLA from Cantt assembly constituency of Lucknow.
