The Muslim community is angry with the puja that started early in the morning on the orders of the Varanasi District Judge’s court in the basement of Vyasji located in Gyanvapi Masjid. The angry Muslim community has called for a bandh today i.e. Friday. Jumma namaz is offered on Friday. On this day, people of Muslim community in Varanasi will keep their shops and establishments closed.
On Wednesday, Varanasi District Court had ordered worship in the basement of Vyasji located in the southern part of Gyanvapi Mosque. The court had ordered to start the puja in the basement within 7 days. After the order, the puja was started in the basement of Vyasji at around 2 o’clock on Wednesday night. The barricading in front of the basement was also removed. People of Muslim community are angry with this.
There will be prayers in mosques from Friday prayers to Asr prayers.
Giving information, Imam of Gyanvapi Masjid and General Secretary of Anjuman Intejamia Masjid, Abdul Batin Nomani said that they will keep their establishments closed on Friday i.e. Jumma. He appealed to the people of Muslim community to keep their businesses closed peacefully and maintain peace in the city. He told that from Friday prayers to Asr prayers, prayers will also be offered in the mosques.
Before 1993, worship was not done in the basement: Imam
Imam Abdul Batin Nomani of Gyanvapi Masjid termed the claim of worship being held in Vyas basement before 1993 as wrong. He told that before 1993 no worship was ever performed in the southern basement. These things have been spread by the Hindu side and the media. Let us tell you that the Varanasi District Judge’s court gave a big order last Wednesday regarding worship in the Vyas Ji basement of Gyanvapi Masjid. The judge gave permission for worship in the Vyas basement which had been closed for 31 years. After getting permission from the court, Varanasi Commissioner, DM and Police Commissioner reached the spot at around 10.30 pm. Since the court had appointed the DM as the receiver of the basement, the door of the basement was opened in the presence of the DM.
