A dispute broke out over weighing of sugarcane at a local sugar mill in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh. Inside the mill, the bouncers misbehaved with the sugarcane farmers and beat them up. The dispute escalated so much that it reached the point of firing. Some farmers were seriously injured due to the firing and were admitted to the district hospital for treatment. Angered by this violence, sugarcane farmers protested at the mill, after which the mill had to be closed.
This incident occurred after a dispute between farmers at Venus Sugar Mill regarding the weight of the tractor trolley carrying sugarcane. There was an altercation between two farmers standing in line with a trolley laden with sugarcane to get their sugarcane weighed. Amidst this altercation, the bouncers posted at the gate of the sugarcane mill jumped in and started beating the farmers. The dispute escalated when a clash with the bouncers started. The matter reached such a stage that firing took place.
The dispute was not resolved even with the police
Efforts were made by the police and administrative officials to resolve the matter between the mill management and the farmers but it yielded no results. The farmers are adamant that they will not back down until action is taken against those responsible. At the same time, since the condition of the injured farmers is critical, they have been referred to the district hospital for treatment.
Farmers refused to give sugarcane
At the same time, enraged by the incident of assault on sugarcane farmers, the sugarcane farmers of the area staged a protest at the gate of the mill and got the mill closed. Apart from this, farmers have also refused to give sugarcane to the mill.
