The Indian cricket team will play a series of five T20 International matches against Australia after the ODI World Cup 2023. The series will start from 23rd November. Hardik Pandya, who will captain India in the T20 International in 2023, is struggling with his ankle injury and it is difficult for him to recover against Australia. In such a situation, Hardik’s injury can change the fate of T20’s number one batsman Suryakumar Yadav or Ruturaj Gaikwad, who won the gold medal in the Asian Games 2023.
While talking to news agency ‘PTI’, a BCCI source said that it would be better for Hardik to be completely fit and make a comeback through the T20 series against South Africa in December. It was also said that in Hardik’s absence, Suryakumar Yadav would be the first choice to captain India in the T20 series against Australia.
The source said, “There is some time for Hardik to be declared fit and present for selection. It would be better for him to try to complete his rehab and make a comeback through the series against South Africa. “However, this will be the call of the NCA Sports Science team.”
Next, there was a discussion about the captain of the team, in which it was told that Surya would be the first choice and Ruturaj Gaikwad would be the second choice to take command of the team. However, these days Surya is a part of the Indian team in the ODI World Cup 2023. In such a situation, after the World Cup, Surya can also take rest like all the senior players.
The source said, “It is an accepted rule that Indian white ball specialist players (especially batsmen) can play 25 to 30 matches in a year in both formats, excluding IPL. Therefore, if Surya does not ask for rest, then he is the first choice for captaincy. If he takes rest, Ruturaj is the second choice.”
