Prayagraj: Allahabad High Court has reserved the decision on suspending the sentence of Mukhtar Ansari in the gangster case and hearing the bail application. The court will give its verdict on September 25.
Justice Rajbir Singh has given this order after listening to Mukhtar Ansari’s lawyer Upendra Upadhyay and Additional Advocate General Manish Goyal on behalf of the government. Mukhtar Ansari has filed an appeal in the High Court against the 10-year imprisonment given by the MP/MLA Special Court of Ghazipur in the Gangster Act case.
Was sentenced to 10 years on 29th April
On April 29, the court had convicted Mukhtar Ansari and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment. Mukhtar Ansari has been in jail for 12 years and four months. The defense says that Mukhtar Ansari has suffered more during the trial than what he has been sentenced to.
In this matter, the court had also sought a report from the Banda Jail Superintendent. Mukhtar Ansari’s brother Afzal Ansari has already got bail in the same case. Afzal Ansari was sentenced to four years imprisonment, due to which his membership of Parliament was terminated.
Case was registered under Gangster Act
In 2009, Muhammadabad police had registered a case of Gangster Act against Mukhtar Ansari, including the case of murder of Kapildev Singh, resident of Sabua, Karanda, and conspiring to attempt to murder of Mir Hasan of Muhammadabad, in the gang chart. Hearing in this case was going on in the court.
