The Allahabad High Court had refused to stay the lower court’s order convicting him in the Gangster Act case.
was sentenced to four years
Afzal Ansari was disqualified from membership of the Lok Sabha after his conviction by the MP/MLA Court, Ghazipur. Afzal Ansari, brother of former MLA Mukhtar Ansari, was sentenced to four years imprisonment.
Gangster Act was imposed in Krishnanand Rai murder case
In the year 2007, a case of murder of Krishnanand Rai was registered against Afzal Ansari along with former MLA strongman Mukhtar Ansari and brother-in-law Ejajul, in which despite being acquitted, a gangster case was filed on the same basis. It was argued that the Gangster Act case cannot be prosecuted on the basis of just one case. In the petition, there was a demand to cancel the proceedings under the Gang Bandh Act.
