Lucknow/Varanasi: Amid growing controversy over the film ‘Adipurush’, a group of people staged a protest in Varanasi and tore posters of the film, while the Hindu Mahasabha on Monday lodged a complaint with the Lucknow police against its makers.
The Samajwadi Party said the devotees were hurt by the film’s “cheap and superficial dialogues” and the film was part of an “agenda”. Activists of a Hindu organization staged a protest at IP Mall in Sigra, Varanasi and tore posters of the film ‘Adipurush’ over the indecent dialogues and characterization. On the other hand, the office-bearers of the Hindu Mahasabha in the capital Lucknow have filed a complaint at the Hazratganj police station demanding registration of an FIR against the actors, producer and director of the film. However, the FIR has not been registered yet.
Hemant Raj, a leader of a Hindu organisation, said that on Monday, dozens of youths gathered at the Bharat Mata temple and made a procession from here to reach the IP Mall in Sigra. He said that the youth there tore the poster of the film and shouted slogans and demanded that the film be stopped. The youth appealed people not to watch Adipurush film and distributed pamphlets. The youth wanted to enter inside the mall, but were stopped by the police force present there. The youth said that their religion is being mocked by making such a film, which they will not tolerate at any cost. He demanded that the Uttar Pradesh government immediately ban this film. Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha spokesperson Shishir Chaturvedi and his other colleagues in the capital Lucknow have lodged a complaint with the Hazratganj police station demanding registration of an FIR against the film’s actors and the film’s producer-director.
In his Tahrir, he said that Sanatam Dharma, Lord Shri Ram ji, Hanuman ji, the saffron flag and Sita Maiya have been insulted in the film. He said that the portrayal of the film is wrong and the costumes of the actors are inappropriate and its dialogues are objectionable. He said that the real Ramayana has been misrepresented. In this regard, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Arvind Kumar Verma said that Tahrir has been received against the film and the police are investigating the matter, yet an FIR has not been registered in this matter. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party over the film ‘Adipurush’, but he did not name the film. SP leader Yadav said in a tweet, “Those who are playing with the faith of people by making arbitrary films with their agenda, with the money of political masters, the censor board should give their ‘political-character’ certificate before giving certificate to their films.
