ACC Meeting For Asia Cup 2023: Know what was discussed in the formal meeting?
In fact, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and PCB President Najam Sethi had their first formal meeting in Bahrain on Saturday i.e. February 4, 2023, in which it was learned that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) would organize the Asia Cup in March. Cup 2023) and decide on an alternate venue for the ODI tournament.
It is believed that three venues in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) may be held in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, but the decision has been kept in abeyance for the time being. One of the arguments behind getting it out of Pakistan is that the Pakistani rupee is falling very fast there compared to the dollar. In such a situation, ACC will have to spend a lot in organizing this tournament there.
An ACC official said that Sethi had just taken over the reins of the PCB and if he had handed over the hosting rights in the first meeting itself, it would have reflected poorly at home. Pakistan is currently going through an economic crisis and inflation has hit the country very hard with the country’s currency falling to Pakistani Rupee 277 against 1 US Dollar. Holding a high profile tournament like the Asia Cup, even if the ACC pays the grant, could burn a hole in the PCB’s coffers, so strategically, if the tournament were to be held in the UAE.
ACC took a big decision for Afghanistan
The ACC has assured that it will extend all possible help to the Afghanistan Board so that women’s cricket can be revived in the country. Women are banned from playing sports under Taliban rule.
