New Delhi. The BCCI has already started preparations for the World Cup 2023 to be held in India. On Sunday, the BCCI organized a review meeting of Team India. In this Captain Rohit Sharma and Coach Rahul Dravid have shortlisted 20 players for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. There is a possibility that some big players may not be included in this list.
However, the board has not released any list of players yet. Nevertheless, there has been a debate in the cricket world regarding this that some players will not be able to join this list. Let’s take a look at the five players who are considered the least likely.
1. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan’s return to the team is now considered difficult. Dhawan has turned 37. He is running out of T20 and Test team for a long time. Dhawan was not included in the squad announced for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Talking about 2022, Dhawan also captained Team India on several occasions. But could not leave much impact. In the year 2022, scored 688 runs in 22 innings of ODIs at an average of 34. This includes 6 fifties.
2. Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw has had a very disappointing international career so far, but Shaw has the talent to become an all-format star. Shaw has played six ODIs so far and has scored only 189 runs at an average of 31.50 and has not been able to score a single half-century. Not included in the Indian team against Sri Lanka.
3. Ruturaj Gaikwad
Like Prithvi Shaw, Gaikwad has struggled to replicate his domestic success in international cricket. He is the key batsman for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL but has played only nine T20Is for India, scoring 135 runs at a strike rate of 123.85. Also, he has played only one ODI so far. Gaikwad scored 19 runs in 42 balls in a match.
4. Deepak Chahar
Fast bowler Till the end of 2021, it was believed that Deepak Chahar would play a key role in the T20 World Cup. However, a recurring back injury sidelined him from international cricket. India have the option of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik, although Chahar can still find a place in the team. He has been included in the squad against Sri Lanka.
5. Shardul Thakur
The Mumbai pacer has played some fascinating innings for India with both bat and ball. However, the fact remains that he could not become an all-rounder like Hardik Pandya. Pandya has been impressive in the last year, especially in T20 cricket, returning to form with both bat and ball. Even in bowling he has not been able to impress much, he cannot be selected in the team because of his batting.
