Kamlesh Paswan, BJP MP from Gorakhpur’s Basgaon Lok Sabha constituency, has been sentenced to one and a half years by the MP MLA court. This punishment has been given to the MP in connection with the road blockade on January 16, 2008. At that time BSP was in government and Paswan was in Samajwadi Party. In those days, the BSP government had arrested SP leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav. In protest against this, MP Paswan did a traffic jam. Now since this sentence is less than three years, he will not have to go to jail for the time being. But against this decision of the court, he will be able to appeal in the sessions court.
Samajwadi Party workers protested across the state in January 2008 against the arrest of SP leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav. In the same sequence, the then SP leader and currently Kamlesh Paswan, who reached the Lok Sabha on a BJP ticket, also protested at the main gate of BRD Medical College. During this, he tried to jam the chakka in the city. In such a situation, the police registered a case against him and sent the matter to the court. The case was heard in the court of ACJM Second Prabhat Tripathi.

Apart from MP Kamlesh Paswan, the court found guilty of his associates Ramvriksh Yadav, Mahesh Paswan, resident of Rajisemra, Chandresh Paswan, Ram Asare, resident of Sarai, Sunil Paswan, resident of Raiganj of Khorabar police station area and Khudus alias Ghuhus, resident of Manbela of Chiluatal police station area. After this, all of them were sentenced to one and a half year imprisonment and imposed a fine of two thousand rupees.
Paswan will go to the sessions court
MP Kamlesh Paswan has the option of filing an appeal in the competent court after the announcement of the sentence from the ACJM court. Since he is currently a Member of Parliament, instead of immediately sending him to jail, the court has released him on a personal bond for the time being. His lawyer PK Dubey told that soon an appeal will be filed in the competent court against this decision.
No provision to send to jail
According to advocate PK Dubey, there is no provision to send any MP or MLA to jail in case of punishment of less than three years. He told that in this case of the year 2008, the court has convicted the MP on Saturday. With this he has been sentenced. He told that the appeal will be filed only on the basis of the facts kept during the hearing in the court.
