New Delhi. After sitting on the bench for the entire T20I series, Sanju Samson and Umran Malik finally found a place in the ODI squad. Along with this, Arshdeep also made his debut in ODIs. The Indian team management came under heavy criticism for not giving Samson and Malik a single game in the three-match T20I series.
Hardik Pandya was the captain of the team in T20 but now he is back home along with some other players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj and Ishan Kishan. Shikhar Dhawan has taken over the captaincy of the Indian team for the ODI series.
On Friday, two Indian players made their ODI debut at the Auckland ground. Umran Malik and Arshdeep were given place in the playing XI. Both the fast bowlers have impressed the team management with their performances. Captain Dhawan handed over the ODI cap to Arshdeep while bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule handed over the ODI cap to Umran.
Malik looked eager after getting the cap
The BCCI shared a video of the cap presentation ceremony on Twitter, in which Laxman is seen making the announcement about the debut. Dhawan walked up to Arshdeep, handed him the ODI cap and celebrated him in his customary ‘kabaddi style’.
Malik was presented with the cap by Bahule, but the excitement coupled with the nervousness of the event was so high that Malik ignored the presence of camerapersons right behind him filming the moment. On this a player of the team said – The camera is here, on this everyone could not stop laughing.
