Samajwadi Party has fielded Dimple Yadav, daughter-in-law of late Mulayam Singh Yadav, for the by-election to Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat. At present, the BJP’s bet on the seat is awaited, but in the meantime there is speculation that the ruling party in the state may declare Aparna Yadav, another daughter-in-law of the Yadav family, as its candidate. However, nothing has been said about it officially.
Where did the speculation start?
It’s Wednesday. On the one hand, in Uttar Pradesh, discussions had increased as soon as the candidature of Dimple Yadav, wife of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav was announced. At the same time, the meeting of Aparna Yadav and BJP state president Chaudhary has given fuel to new political speculation. A picture surfaced, in which both the BJP leaders are seen. Now it is being said that the BJP can repose confidence on Aparna in the Mainpuri seat vacated by the death of former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh. Aparna had joined the BJP even before the assembly elections held in the year 2022. However, his electoral debut in the party is yet to come.
Dimple’s candidature also surprised
Earlier, there was a possibility that the party may declare Tej Pratap Yadav, the cousin of Akhilesh, as its candidate. Tej Pratap has also been an MP from Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in the past. Apart from this, the name of Dharmendra Yadav was also in discussions. This bet of SP is also being seen from the point of view of taking on Akhilesh’s uncle Shivpal Yadav.
Why Dimple?
According to India Today, an SP functionary had said that Dimple’s name has been stamped after a conversation between Akhilesh and the party’s Yadav and Muslim community leaders in Mainpuri. A senior SP leader said, “Considering the caste equation in Mainpuri, where Shakya and Thakur votes are important, the party has recently appointed Alok Shakya as the new district president of Mainpuri. Also Dimple was Thakur by caste before marriage. It is all part of the strategy.
Mainpuri has been a stronghold of SP
Mainpuri seat of UP is considered a stronghold of SP. Mulayam Singh was elected from here for the first time in the year 1996. After this, he won from here in the years 2004, 2009 and 2019. Tej Pratap won the by-elections held in 2014. Here, Dimple has been a two-time Lok Sabha MP from Kannauj.
