On Sunday, a large number of devotees were performing aarti of Mother Jagdamba at the Ekta Puja pandal located in Narthua, Aurai. Everything inside the pandal was destroyed but his main statue remained. Nothing is visible in the pandal except the iron pipe. The entire pandal has been burnt to ashes but the idols of Matarani and Ganesh etc living in her court are completely safe. It looks as if there has been no incident of arson. From the very first day of Shardiya Navratri, Adi Shakti had been seated in the pandal, but from the day of Saptami, the crowd of believers became more in the pandals. Very few devotees used to gather on the initial day but on Sunday this number had increased to more than 200. Men along with women and children had also reached the aarti. Most of the women and children participated in it. The aarti was about to end at around 9.45 pm when the fire broke out in the pandal due to a short circuit.
During the accident, more than 64 people, women and children got burnt. Of this, four died in the night itself, while the fifth died on Monday during treatment at BHU. Three people from the same family died. A family lamp was extinguished in it. While the incident of 64 people getting scorched, everyone was shocked, while the statue of Matrani remained safe.
