New Delhi. In the Super 4 match between Pakistan and Afghanistan on the ground of Sharjah, the whole of India was praying for Afghanistan’s victory. The Afghanistan bowlers had dragged the match in their court for 19 overs but the young Pakistan bowler snatched the match from them in the last over. Pakistan had nine wickets down and needed eleven runs in the last over. The Afghanistan team was in the driving seat of the match but what happened then made young Naseem the star of the Asia Cup.
Pakistan in the final with 2 sixes from Naseem
Naseem Shah, who made his debut in the same Asia Cup in the first two balls of the last over, gave Pakistan victory and made it to the final with a six. Naseem’s two sixes not only ensured Pakistan’s place in the final but also knocked India and Afghanistan out of the Asia Cup.
Babar and Wasim Akram remember Miandad
This six from Naseem reminded Pakistan captain Babar Azam and former captain Wasim Akram of Javed Miandad when he had given victory to Pakistan by hitting Chetan Sharma for a six off the last ball at the same ground in 1986.
After the match, Babar said that Naseem did a wonderful job. He reminded us of Javed Miandad. Former Pakistan captain and Sultan of Swing gave his response by tweeting Wasim Akram. He has written – what a match was.. I could not finish like this at this age. Brilliant six off the bat of young Naseem Shah, I was part of the team when Javed Miandad took Pakistan to victory with a six off the last ball. 26 years later I once again witnessed two sixes in the last over, a sensational win.
Now on Sunday, September 11, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will face each other for the Asia Cup trophy.
