Amroha. In a rare incident, a 16-year-old blind girl has been sentenced to life imprisonment after she recognized a rape accused by her voice. A POCSO court sentenced the young man almost four years after he committed the crime. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 52,000 on the accused.
The crime took place in September 2017 at Dhanora village in Amroha when the victim, a farmer’s daughter, was on her way to her relative’s house.
According to the police, she was stopped on the way by her neighbor Rahul Singh, who held her hand on the pretext of showing her the way to the relative’s house.
He took her to the room meant for the tubewell and raped her.
The girl remained silent but recognized him by her voice. She somehow returned to her home and narrated her ordeal to her parents, who lodged a complaint against the accused under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act.
The accused was arrested, but later released on bail. After the verdict, he was again arrested and sent to jail.
Public Prosecutor Basant Singh said, “The proceedings of the case were going on for the last four years. Keeping all the facts in mind, Additional District and Sessions Judge Awadhesh Kumar Singh earlier this week announced life imprisonment for the rapist whose Later the accused was arrested and sent to jail.”
