On Wednesday morning, Varanasi MP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the Varanasi District Magistrate over the phone. The Prime Minister spoke to District Magistrate Kaushalraj Sharma over telephone and inquired about the flood situation in the city. During this telephonic conversation, DM Kaushal Raj Sharma informed the PM about the condition of the flood-hit areas and relief and rescue operations besides distribution of relief materials.
The settlements on the banks of the Ganges have submerged. So far water has come on the roads in Samanghat area. The water has increased from Dashashwamedh Ghat towards Godauliya. The streets at Manikarnika Ghat are flooded. The bodies are going to the ghat by boat. The cremation is taking place on the roof of the temple. More or less similar is the situation of Harishchandra Ghat also. The cremation is being done on the highest stair. The most affected area is on the banks of the Varuna, a tributary of the Ganges. The areas like Purana Pul, Saraiya, Pulkohna, Shailputri, Lakhighat, Dhelwaria, Chowkaghat, Hukulganj, Varuna Pul etc. have been flooded with water. Due to this, the drains connected with the Varuna river are also in spate. The water of Narokhar Nala has affected the area up to two kilometers from the Varuna river. The streets and roads of the Sonatalab area have been flooded with water from the drain. Boats are now plying in many lanes of Pakke Mahal on the banks of the Ganges.
