Ramnagar The shrine of the faith of millions of people, the old hillock of Girija temple, will now hardly be able to bear the brunt of the floods. Seeing the cracks lying in the mound in every place, this is now visible. 1 lakh 25 thousand cusecs in 1924, 1 lakh 56 thousand cusecs in 1993 and 1 lakh 64 thousand cusecs water in 2010 brought thousands of tons of debris. But the flood water in the river could not even deter the temple’s hair. This mound continued to protect the temple from the river Kosi. But alas no concrete arrangements have been made for its security so far.
The temple has a history of more than one hundred and fifty years old.
Girish Chandra Pant, spokesperson of Degree College, who has written a book on Girija temple, says that the history of the temple will be 150 years old. It is said that at some time this temple came flowing in the river of Maya mound. Then Doiya Masana (Phantom Raj) requested Mata to stay here and this temple froze in its place. Since then, Mother Bhagwati is sitting on this mound and doing welfare of her devotees. Dr. Pant says that in 1930, Ramkrishna Pade’s tea shop used to be in a hut on the roadside. In the midst of the dense forest nearby, there was a temple in the middle of Kosi, including the old goddess’s mound, with a temple in the middle of Kosi, about which some people of Garjia village and the forest department only knew. Then some officers of that department requested Ramakrishna to take care of the temple. At that time Ram Krishna Pandey refused to maintain the temple. Then his hut caught fire. After this Ramakrishna Pandey started looking after this temple. After that the temple was managed by his son Purna Chandra Pandey. Purnachandra Pandey ran from minister to officials for the protection of the temple throughout his life. But neither the government nor the governments remained aware of the security of the temple mound.
The temple is famous as religious tourism
Girija temple has now made its mark as religious tourism too. Every tourist coming to Corbett Park, whether native or foreign, does not live here without bowing down.
Security got stuck in files
Temple priest Mohanchand Pandey says that in 2012, the protection and beautification of the temple was announced by the Chief Minister. On which the irrigation department had sent an estimate of 675.37 lakh from NABARD item. But at that time, due to its beautification and other works, the matter got entangled in the files after the irrigation department gave the letter of transfer to the tourism department.
Now the hope is raised again: With the initiative of Dheeraj Gabryal by the District Magistrate, there is hope for the safety of the temple. EE KC Uniyal of Irrigation Department says that this time the DPR of IIT Roorkee scientists will be prepared and sent to the government. On which the government will be requested to provide funds soon.
