Ratlam Railway Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the video conference on Sunday after the Ratlam-Chittorgarh rail section of Ratlam Railway Division was electrified. Now the railway will run 16 pairs of mail-express trains on this track with an electronic engine. In Ratlam, the journey will be completed in less time due to the time required to change the diesel engine. This will ease people. Railways will also save Rs 27.54 crore annually in the operation of the electric locomotives of goods trains and passenger trains.
Ratlam MP Guman Singh Damore was present in the program on platform number two. After the launch, the Goods train was operated from Ratlam to Chittorgarh by electric locomotive. During this, Divisional Railway Manager Vineet Gupta, Additional Divisional Railway Manager KK Sinha and other branch officers, members of Divisional Railway Users Advisory Committee etc. attended.
Work completed in 18 months
A Divisional Railway spokesperson said that Ratlam Mandal, in the mission of 100 per cent electrification by 2023 on all broad gauge rail routes, achieved this target in just 18 months. It also includes a six-month lockdown period from April to September 2020 of Kovid-19.
The use of an electronic engine will save energy bills and reduce oil consumption. The energy cost by an electric locomotive on 1000 GTKM freight traffic comes to about Rs 27.50, which is much lower than the cost of diesel traction (around Rs 150). In comparative calculations, there will be a saving of 9.2 crores per year on the operation of passenger trains and Rs 18.34 crores on freight services.
