Islamabad | Foreign Minister Mahmood Qureshi said that the Pakistan-led Imran Khan-led government would not resign on January 31, bowing to pressure from PDM opposition parties. In fact, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), comprising 11 opposition parties, had demanded resignation from the Government of Pakistan by 31 January. Qureshi made the remarks while the PDM announced to intensify its anti-government campaign.
The foreign minister said, “Prime Minister Imran Khan has the confidence of the National Assembly. Why would he resign on the demand of the opposition?”
He said that PDM had earlier announced his resignation from the provincial assemblies on December 31, 2020, but the date passed.
Qureshi told Geo News, “The public has come to know the real agenda of the opposition and had no power in their ‘jalas’ (rallies).”
Last week, Pakistan People’s Party chief Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari threatened Khan to resign by 31 January. He had said that if he did not, he would lead a long march to Islamabad. He also said that there is no time left for talks.
