Mumbai. Riya’s brother Shouvik Chakraborty has been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Friday in connection with the drugs angle in the suspected death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The NCB has also arrested Samuel Miranda, Sushant’s house manager. According to NCB officials, both were arrested after 10 hours of questioning.
Earlier in the day, NCB also searched the homes of Shovik and Miranda. They also seized Shovik’s laptop and mobile phone.
The NCB had also told a court that Shovik had ordered cannabis from drug peddler Abdul Basit Parihar and paid it through Google Pay.
Shoic and Miranda will be produced in a court on Saturday.
An NCB official said that the agency would seek their custody for questioning and further interrogation along with other arrested accused.
The official said that the duo will also be questioned regarding information received from the laptop and chat seized by the agency.
The NCB had on August 26 registered a case under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in the name of Riya, her brother Shovik, talent manager Jaya Saha, Sushant’s co-manager Shruti Modi and Goa-based hotelier Gaurav Arya. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had asked the NCB to investigate the matter after the drugs angle surfaced.
An investigation into the drugs angle was launched after WhatsApp messages surfaced between Riya and Shruti Modi as well as Miranda and Sushant’s flatmate Siddharth Pithani.
NCB is the third central agency to be involved in the investigation into Sushant’s death after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and ED.
The revelations about the link between Shovik and Parihar were made by the NCB in a court in Mumbai, as Parihar was presented earlier.
This was revealed in a new disclosure made by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a Mumbai court. Parihar was produced before the court after launching a drug angle investigation into the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The court remanded Parihar to NCB custody till September 9.
According to NCB officials, drug-peddler Zaid Villatra revealed in his statement to the agency that Parihar used to be the receiver of marijuana or marijuana from him. Zaid has also been arrested recently.
