Washington US President Donald Trump has declared Wilmington in the southern US state of North Carolina as the first heritage city (heritage city) of the Second World War. Trump announced this at a ceremony to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Reportedly, Trump said in his speech at Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington on Wednesday, “We will never forget what you did for us.”
According to The Hill Report, Wilmington was the site of the North Carolina Shipbuilding Company during World War One, which built 243 vessels over five years as part of the federal government’s emergency shipbuilding program.
Reportedly, the president signed legislation for it last year, with at least one city to be designated as an American World War II Heritage City each year. The nomination is based on contributions from World War II heroes.
