The militants vandalized the grand closing ceremony of Aman cricket tournament in Drar Mamazai area in Ismailzai tehsil in the upper part of Oraqzai district on Thursday. Eyewitnesses said that a large number of spectators, including political activists and media persons, had gathered at the Chain Ground to watch the final match of the Aman cricket tournament. He said that the terrorists fired indiscriminately on the playground from the nearby hills even before the match started.
He said that players, spectators and journalists escaped the scene and saved their lives. The local leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Haji Qasim Gul, was the chief guest at the final of the cricket tournament. One spectator said that the firing was so fast that the organizers had no choice but to end the game. He said that when the firing started from the nearby hills, all ran to escape. However, there was no loss of life or property in the incident.
According to the Pakistani website, Oraqzai District Police Officer Nisar Ahmad Khan said that there were reports about the presence of militants in the area and that police along with the Oraqzai Scouts and Frontier Corps would now launch a joint operation against the terrorists and other criminals.
