Varanasi. The half naked body of an eight year old girl who had left her house at 7 pm on Tuesday to buy a mosquito coil was found on Wednesday in the garbage dumping area of Chandauli’s Sujabad Girls Composite School premises on the border of Ramnagar in Varanasi. There were marks of injury and blood on her body. It was suspected that she might have been raped and then murdered.
Suspicion arose from CCTV footage
During investigation, CCTV footage showed neighbour Irshad carrying the body in a sack. The victim’s family had also expressed suspicion on him. SOG and Ramnagar police showed promptness and arrested the accused neighbour youth Irshad alias Bangar after an encounter in Domri at around 2.30 am. During this, Irshad was shot in his leg. The accused admitted during interrogation that he killed the girl by hitting her head with a stone after failing to rape her.
The girl’s body was kept in a plastic sack after twisting her hands and legs
SOG in-charge Manish Mishra and Ramnagar Inspector Raju Singh were involved in the encounter. Earlier at 10 am, when children came to loot kites, they saw the dead body of a girl kept in a plastic bag with her hands and legs twisted. The place of incident is Chandauli, while the girl was a resident of Ramnagar. On the orders of Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal, Ramnagar police has registered a case and started investigation. Three people including the shopkeeper are being questioned.
The forensic team also went to the spot and collected evidence. Earlier, the police had to face the anger of the family and the villagers. People accused the police of negligence. Only after a lot of persuasion, the police could take the body in their custody and send it for post-mortem. PAC and police are deployed in the village. Outpost in-charge Sujabad Umesh Rai has been suspended.
The girl did not return for a long time after buying mosquito coil
A girl from a village in Ramnagar police station area went out to buy mosquito coil from a shop 100 meters away from home but did not return for a long time. When the father went out to search for her, he found out that the daughter had left the shop a long time ago. The worried father searched for some time in the village itself and after that reached Sujabad police outpost. After taking the girl’s photo, the police recorded her details and returned her with assurance of finding her. The father also informed about his daughter’s disappearance on dial 112.
Rape suspicion dismissed
The police vehicle arrived, but the father was called out as they could not enter the street. When the father did not arrive, the policemen returned. DCP Kashi Zone Gaurav Banshwal, however, has dismissed the suspicion of rape. He said that the girl might have seen acquaintances in such a situation, which she was murdered to hide. She was a class one student and had not gone to school since her grandfather’s death on December 12. In the CCTV cameras, she has been seen coming and going only up to 50 meters from the house. The cause of death will be known in the postmortem report.
