Varanasi: On Tuesday morning, the police lathicharged the farmers protesting against land marking for Transport Nagar. Many farmers and police personnel were injured. Women have also been injured. When stones were pelted on the VDA and revenue personnel who had come to mark the land in Bairwan Karanadandi of Mohan Sarai, the police took charge and lathi-charged. The team of Development Authority and Revenue Department had reached to demarcate the land of the farmers who had taken compensation in the past.
The team that went for demarcation on Sunday had to face heavy opposition. Raising slogans of “Death to Development Authority, Long live Kisan Ekta”, the farmers chased away the personnel of VDA and Revenue Department. Also, this action was termed as a violation of the Land Acquisition Act 2013.
Officers had arrived for land measurement
Along with this, the decision of Kisan Mahapanchayat was taken after meeting on Monday. According to the decision, on Tuesday, under the banner of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, farmers of Bairwan, Kannadadi, Mohan Sarai and Milkichak, who were affected by the Mohansarai Transport Nagar Yojana, gathered near Mohansarai Highway.
Meanwhile, the employees of VDA and Revenue Department along with heavy police force arrived for measurement of the land. The farmers got angry as soon as they got information about this. When the police became tough in the midst of debate, they started pelting stones. On this, the police lathi-charged fiercely.
